Color Pencil and Graphite

Instructor: Karla Mann
Explore a variety of drawing techniques with color pencil and traditional graphite material. Learn to build and layer the media to create beautiful, realistic drawings. Students of all levels have the option of learning to draw using the grid method. Bring photographs or images to work from.

Pastel Drawing I & II

Instructor: Nancy Mansfield
This course introduces students to soft pastel and different application techniques. Color and its rela­tionship to light and form will be emphasized. Participants progress through each stage of compositional develop­ment and work from still-life arrangements and photographs. Intermediate students may continue their investigation of the pastel medium as they broaden their understanding and refine their technique through experimentation with different types of paper, color principles, layering, and more while developing a personal style.                                                                                                                                                                                   Members $120 / Non-members $135

Travel Journaling

Instructor: Janet Lynn Eggen
Increase your powers of observation as you participate in exercises to help you confidently draw quick plein air studies in your travel journal or sketchbook. Learn to combine pen and ink skills with your choice of colored media, either watercolor, colored pencils, or conté crayon to document your travels both near and far. Basic drawing experience is required as well as some experience in your choice of color medium.

Painting Workshop - Oil, Acrylic or Watercolor (Afternoon)

Practice developing an image from initial concept to final product in oil, acrylic, or watercolor media. Instructor will emphasize color theory, brushwork, material preparation and the ap­propriate application of paint. Intermediate students continue their exploration of their personal style as they broaden their understanding, gain confidence and refine their techniques in their chosen medium. Basic drawing experience is required.

Painting in Oil from Photographs I

Translate photographic images into canvas masterpieces in this course inspired by classic oil painting technique. Give depth, dimension and complexity to painting by using personal photographs of family, friends, wildlife, landscapes and more as reference. Students learn paint¬ing basics and beyond, with an emphasis on compositional balance, materials preparation, under-painting mediums and glazing techniques. Basic painting and drawing experience is helpful.

Approaching Painting

Instructor: Blade Wynne
The purpose of this course will be to introduce students to a range of approaches to painting. Students will be familiarized with the basic tools and techniques of painting as well as become immersed in a variety of conceptual positions. The course will be geared toward experimentation and an expansive awareness of what painting can be. By being intensely involved in the daily activity of painting and by engaging in a structured series of set assignments the students will become absorbed in a language of visual thinking. The assignments will become progressively more personal as the course progresses. By working towards the application of established theories, concepts and media the students will strive to develop their own work.

Introduction to Zentangle

Instructor: Kim Herman                                                                                                                                                                      Looking for a way to express your creative side, unwind from stress, focus your thoughts or just have fun?  Zentangle is an easy to learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns.  It is a fascinating new art form that is fun and relaxing. Zentangle provides artistic satisfaction and increases focus and creativity.  No prior training or drawing skills are needed - if you can hold a pen, you can create a Zentangle (even if you feel you are not at all artistic). Class fee includes materials.  Note:  Zentangles are created on a 3 1/2 inch square piece of art paper - if you wear reading glasses, please bring them to class.
