Outreach Programs

back

MOCA's Outreach Programs are offered to public and private schools throughout the Hampton Roads region. We provide 10 action-packed courses for students in grades 1-5. These Outreach Programs focus on integrating the principles of contemporary visual art with Virginia Standards of Learning curriculum goals. Researchers have found that using visual art in any capacity, and with any area of study, whether it is social studies, science, language arts or mathematics, greatly increases our children's ability to learn and retain information. Our MOCA Outreach Educators present innovative, up-beat lessons so children learn by having fun in the classroom! (Yes, we'll say it's FUN!)

1. Pre-Visit Materials

Pre-visit materials are emailed to participating teachers prior to school visit. Teachers and administrators are encouraged to book early for best dates. Participating schools must register for a minimum of two back-to-back classroom visits per desired outreach program.

2. MOCA Educator Visit

Our MOCA Outreach Educators present innovative, memorable lessons incorpoarting props, costumes, artifacts, hands-on activities, creative movement and lots more.

3. Free Museum Pass

Each student will also receive a guest pass to MOCA allowing them to return with up to five friends and family members for free! Using this free pass, students and their parents can view, discuss, and create art, further reinforcing what was learned during the outreach visit.

Cost

Costs range from $90 to $110 dependent on program choice. See individual descriptions for cost information. Fees are due no later than seven days following program completion.

Cancellation Policy

Outreach programs are in high demand with a long waiting list for all programs. In the event of a cancellation, we respectfully ask you to notify the museum via email at least one month prior to your scheduled class date(s). This will allow appropriate time for MOCA to contact another school and distribute pre-visit materials, thus affording their students the opportunity to participate.
