OPEN CALL TO ARTISTS: ART UNDER GLASS. Art Under Glass is a pilot program of the City of Virginia Beach’s Office of Cultural Affairs, in conjunction with Town Center Associates, to make vacant storefront space in the Town Center Arts & Entertainment District available for temporary art exhibits by local artists.
A group of artists, restaurants and businesses in and around 18th Street came together last year to organize a First Fridays event. Based on the success of this event, there was momentum to expand that effort and formally develop a creative district in the area. The ViBe Creative District was formally established by the City Council on April 21, 2015.
- The district will focus on local and regional working artists and related retail.
- It will attract both residents and visitors.
- It is our hope that it will include an adaptive re-use location for a space for the production of art such as a welding studio, digital media center, ceramics.
- It will promote the work of local individual artists and galleries
The Artists Gallery, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is a working marketplace for visual artists, offering visitors the opportunity to experience artists creating, displaying and selling their original works of art. In addition to new works on display, the gallery sponsors group shows and individual exhibitions by members and invited guest artists. The Artists Gallery, in existence since 1988, is managed by the cooperative efforts of the exhibiting artists.
In collaboration with the Old Beach Farmers Market and local art supporters, the Old Beach Art Market is a intimate gathering of local artists who display their work for sale to the public. Local artists are welcome to sell their artwork and wares in the parking lot at the corner of 19nd Street and Cypress the First Saturday of each month throughout the summer. The 2012 season is starting June 2nd. Artists are required to secure a City of Virginia Beach business license.
