Contemporary Creations (Ages 6-8)

Instructor: Jade O’Day
Students will explore the MOCA galleries and look to contemporary art for inspiration as they learn the visual language of line, shape, color, value, texture, and space. Young artists will use these fundamental skills to draw and paint original works of art while they discover their own artistic voice for creative expression.

Mini-Make it with MOCA: Galaxy Sensory Bottles - Family Workshop

Instructor: Lauren McHale
Create a bottled galaxy that will captivate your child’s imagination for hours! By using neon colors, glitter, stars, and a touch of glow, your child can create their own galactic universe that they can hold in the palm of their hand! Discover how the act of turning the bottle over and over can have a productive effect in calming children in times of sensory overload, aiding them to fall asleep. Make art, relax, and explore mindfulness while enjoying family time at MOCA. Open to ages 5 and up, all levels of experience, who are interested in making something by hand and having a fun Sunday afternoon! No art experience is necessary. Both children and parent/guardian must pre-register.

Mindful Art Workshops   

Breathing and Art (ages 6-12)

Did you know there are different ways of breathing to help calm the mind and settle the body? During this workshop, children will learn different breathing techniques in a fun way to help with stress, anxiety and fear and excitement.  We will also be incorporating painting with our breath and creating beautiful masterpieces.

Exploring Present Moment and Art (ages 6-12)

Join us in combing art and the present moment through body awareness (yoga), walking, stillness and group activities.What does it mean to be present?  With so many activities and tasks in our busy lives it’s tough to just be here in the now. Being present can be a difficult task for children and adults alike. However, once we have a better understanding of the present moment, life becomes easier and more enjoyable.  During this workshop we will discover how to stay in the present moment through art and everyday life.

Each artist is given the opportunity to learn more about where his or her creative interests lie by having access to a variety of materials and methods.
